80GB hard disk drive
A built-in 80GB1 hard disk drive can record and store up to 56 hours of video footage in SD LP mode. In addition, "HDD Smart Protection" gives you peace of mind by preventing any recorded video and images from being lost if the camcorder is accidentally dropped.
1/6" Advanced HADTM CCD Imager
A 1/6" Advanced HADTM (Hole Accumulation Diode) CCD Imager with (effective) pixels provides stunning detail and clarity for exceptional video and still image performance.

The DCR-SR87 features a professional-quality Carl Zeiss® Vario-Tessar® lens designed specifically for compact camcorders. Precision ground optics help maintain the sharpness and contrast of larger lenses, and SteadyShotTM image stabilization helps reduce blur caused by camera shake.
Hybrid Recording to HDD or Memory Stick DuoTM media
Hybrid recording technology delivers a new level of flexibility of capturing and transferring your video footage and digital photos from the camcorder to compatible viewing devices. Record to 80GB1 hard disk drive or choose instead to record to removable Memory Stick PRO DuoTM media (sold separately). You can even select from various dubbing functions to easily copy video or still images from the HDD to the Memory Stick® media -- without using a PC.
25X Optical / 2000X Digital Zoom
25X optical zoom help you capture close-up action while keeping your distance. In addition, Digital Zoom Interpolation means that extreme digital zooming (up to 2000X) is clearer, with less distortion than previous types of digital zooms. |

THE CAMCORDER IS GREAT. PICTURES AND VIDEO ARE CLEAR. ONE THINK I DON'T LIKE IS THAT IT DOES NOT HAVE A WINDOW
TO LOOK INTO WHEN IT IS SUNNY. WHEN IT IS SUNNY YOU CANNOT SEE THE PICTURE AND GUESS THAT THE VIDEO IS COMING OUT RIGHT.
I MESSED UP A FEW VIDEOS BECAUSE OF THIS. |

A little disappointed

I've had several Sony products over the years and have always been impressed by their quality and features. I must confess to being a little disappointed with my SR 87 Camcorder, though. Here's why:
-- The picture resolution is not as good as I expected.
-- The LCD screen is not very bright. It's hard to see
in bright lighting. Wish it came with a viewfinder
for these situations.
-- I also wish the fader feature was a little more
user-friendly. It requires going through the menu
with every fade in or out.
The One-Touch disk burn and the Steady-shot feature are great. Overall, I'd give the camcorder about a C-plus.

| This is a great camera for videos, it's easy to operate & it's light & small. I thought having the still photo option would be awesome, I would only have to carry 1 camera for every thing, but not so. I have taken several hundred photos with it & most are not good quality...the only ones that are good are in perfect lighting conditions. Again---great video ability, poor photos |
